Meet Ashabi Wears, a sustainable clothing brand based in Calgary, Alberta. Thoughtfully produced, Ashabi collections help bring alive ancient designs using sustainable, super soft, breathable bamboo fabrics. The result is beautiful day wear you will want to wear again and again. We spoke to founder Olufunke Olot, to learn more about this unique brand.
Give us the details! Tell us a bit about you and the story behind Ashabi Wears?
A few years ago, I decided I wanted to spend some more time sewing. It was a past time I enjoyed while raising my four kids. I quickly discovered that people were moving away from fast fashion to eco-friendly options. I also noticed that people were embracing cultural heritage designs in their day-to-day wear. I decided to incorporate all these aspects and grow my sewing business, and Ashabi Wears was born.
If Ashabi Wears were a person, how would you describe them?
Ashabi Wears is a lover of people and the planet. She cares about her environment, the preservation of cultural heritage designs, and quality clothing passed down to the next generation.
Owner/Founder of Ashabi Wears, Olufunke Olotu.
What is your biggest accomplishment as a brand so far?
My biggest accomplishment so far is having a product that has helped keep people safe during the pandemic. Our reversible bamboo face mask is breathable and super soft, it fits great, and it's affordable! People love it, and the reviews have been great.
You are shopping at the Green Living Store, and you have three other products in your shopping cart. What are they?
What is the best sustainable swap have you made in the last year?
We have swapped disposable face masks for our reusable face mask. Made locally, these masks are long lasting and feel nice and soft against your face.
Fast forward five years - what is next for Ashabi Wears?
We would like to start producing and exporting more sustainable options for uniforms and day to day clothing.
