Give us the details! Tell us a bit about you and the story behind gldn hour?
Jessica Dumont Nadeau and I developed gldn hour when we realized that taking a collagen supplement daily felt like a chore. Like any beauty routine, you need to commit to it daily to see results. We thought if we can develop a product that not only made taking collagen easy and convenient, but also refreshing and delicious, it would help people nourish their beauty and wellness from the inside out.
We chose marine collagen (type I) collagen for many reasons. First and foremost, type I collagen is the best type for its anti-aging properties and the fact that it is the most abundant collagen in the body with the highest bioavailability. From all the types of collagen, science has shown type I is the best and most effective for skin health, minimizing wrinkles and improving skin health and hydration. Marine collagen contains greater amount of the amino acids needed for healthy tissue growth of hair, skin and nails.
Your sustainability story and what it means to you. What problem does your product/service solve or contribute towards the improvement of? (i.e use upcycled materials to reduce X, donate X% of profits to X cause).
Since collagen is derived from animals and specifically from the parts not consumed in modern diets, we knew that we had to source responsibly and make it part of our companies DNA to give back to the environment from which we are taking. Our collagen is Canadian, manufactured from discarded skins and scales of non-gmo haddock, pollock and cod, making it a sustainable source. We are also a proud member of 1% for the planet and we commit to donating 1% of our sales to environment non-profits in Canada, specifically ones that focus on protection of our lakes and oceans. When we developed our product, being in a recyclable format was also very important and we continue to work towards minimizing our environmental footprint with our packaging as we grow.
Given your experiences as a business owner, what advice would you give to your younger self 5-10 years ago?
Don’t look at other companies and people and assume it was easy. Starting a business is everything but easy and you need to put in work, time and focus on your goals. Most of the time, it may feel impossible but my advice to my younger self would be to be patient and stay focused. It is very easy to sway of course with a new idea, especially for big idea/thinkers like me and waste time. The only way things get done is by focusing solely on what you are building and having the patience to see it come to fruition
Fast forward five years—what is next for gldn hour?
To establish itself in north America as a leading ingestible beauty brand who is pivotal in shedding light on the important of self-care in modern beauty culture. We want to create a brand that supports confidence, confidence in yourself and your own perception of what is beautiful. A culture that also nourishes beauty from a wellness perspective. Beauty from the inside out.
What is the best sustainable swap you have made in the last year?
I have two! I now love and use shampoo and conditioner bars, they don’t contain any harmful ingredients for our bodies or the environment, come in a little recyclable box printed with mineral based (plant based) ink. Second is my new wool dryer ball, an eco-friendly and natural alternative to dryer sheets!
You are shopping at the Green Living Store, and you have three other products in your shopping cart. What are they?

If (gldn hour) were a person, how would you describe them?
She would be super friendly, approachable and someone you would feel good around. She is beauty obsessed but a wellness expert. She would enjoy herself on weekends and be the bartender of extraordinary cocktails for her friends. Enjoys the outdoors but for not too long, city girl at heart.
What is your biggest accomplishment as a brand so far?
In just one year we have sold over 125K cans and are listed in over 450 stores across Canada.
Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or your brand?
We launched gldn hour a year ago today. As young Canadian female entrepreneurs, entirely self-funded, we expected challenges, but nothing prepared us for the unprecedented variables of the pandemic. What we had on our side was passion, agility and dedicating hours upon hours of hard work to our mission - to create a product that would nurture our bodies from the inside out. We truly believe self-care is not only essential for wellness, but vital for beauty. And today, a sip of self-care is born. We are so excited to share gldn hour with you! All of our collagen-infused sparkling waters are made with only the cleanest and purest ingredients. We are deeply in love with each flavour and hope you feel the same.
